Street Performance Spots, Toronto, Guelph

How do street performers pick spots in the city? Besides traffic, what qualities attracts them? I believe definition of a space would be one aspect. In the Toronto picture below, the streetcar shelter provides that while in the Guelp picture the glass walls of the legal clinic.
